Senior Advisor for GBV in Emergencies

As Senior Advisor for GBV in Emergencies, you will help strengthen high-quality, evidence-based gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response programming across NCA's humanitarian work. Working closely with country offices, partners and global networks, you will provide technical leadership and help turn international standards and evidence into effective, context-sensitive programming. You will strengthen technical capacities, support learning across contexts and contribute to the continued development of NCA's GBV work.

How you work

You bring strong technical expertise together with sound judgement and a practical, collaborative approach. You listen carefully, build trust and make complex standards relevant and useful in different contexts. You are comfortable providing technical direction while creating space for country teams to take ownership, and you enjoy supporting colleagues and partners to strengthen their capacities. Working across cultures, teams and departments comes naturally to you, and you contribute to an environment where people share experiences and learn from one another. You bring flexibility, reflection and composure, including when working in demanding situations.

Your responsibilities

  • Strengthen programme quality through survivor-centred, evidence-based approaches aligned with the IASC GBV Guidelines and the Minimum Standards for GBV in Emergencies, adapting tools and guidance to country contexts, with a particular focus on case management.
  • Promote the integration of GBV prevention and response into broader humanitarian programming, collaborating with other thematic advisors and humanitarian colleagues.
  • Provide thought leadership in your areas of expertise and contribute to the content and execution of NCA's Humanitarian Strategic Plan.
  • Promote programme innovation and cross-country learning, maintain an overview of portfolio developments and thematic trends, and document good practices and lessons learned.
  • Provide technical advice and regular follow-up for GBV programmes in assigned country offices, advising on strategy, programme design, implementation and results-based management.
  • Provide technical input and quality assurance for monitoring, evaluation and reporting, working with country offices and relevant colleagues to strengthen evidence-based programming.
  • Build the technical capacity of country office staff and partners through participatory training, mentoring, coaching and practical guidance.
  • Support funding proposals and resource mobilisation in collaboration with country offices and the Donors & Partnership team, ensuring technical quality and adherence to donor and organisational requirements.
  • Represent NCA in relevant technical working groups, coordination platforms and networks; advise colleagues and senior management on GBV.
  • Contribute technical expertise to policy, advocacy and internal and external communication.

Your qualifications

  • An advanced degree in social work, social sciences, gender studies, humanitarian affairs, international development or a related field. Substantial relevant field experience may compensate for formal education.
  • At least five years of specialised experience in GBV prevention and response programming in conflict, post-conflict or humanitarian settings, including at least three years of international experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of international standards for GBV in Emergencies and practical experience applying survivor-centred approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, advice and quality assurance across the programme cycle, including programme design, results-based management, monitoring and reporting.
  • Solid experience in training, mentoring and capacity development, particularly through participatory approaches.
  • Experience developing funding proposals or providing quality assurance for their technical components.
  • A good understanding of humanitarian coordination mechanisms and experience collaborating with country teams and partner organisations.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. French and/or Arabic are an advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to country offices and humanitarian responses, including high-risk contexts and, when required, at short notice

What we offer

  • A meaningful role with the opportunity to strengthen humanitarian GBV programming across multiple country contexts.
  • Collaboration with engaged colleagues and partners in an international, multicultural and interdisciplinary environment.
  • Opportunities to contribute to programme innovation, technical development and shared learning.
