Witch Doctor was such a bizarre and creative concept when it launched.
Imagine House M.D. mixed with Lovecraftian horror and demonic possession. Instead of treating diseases, the doctor is basically diagnosing supernatural infections, curses, parasites and eldritch monstrosities.
And this sketch cover perfectly captures that unsettling vibe.
The black-and-white linework makes the creature design even more disturbing somehow. The upside-down body horror imagery, the stretched anatomy and the clinical posture of the doctor standing over the “patient” feel incredibly uncomfortable in the best horror-comic way possible.
Honestly, this is one of those covers that people either immediately love… or immediately want nowhere near their collection shelf. 😂
These Skybound anniversary sketch editions continue to impress me because they strip everything down to raw artwork. No flashy colors, no effects — just detailed linework and atmosphere carrying the entire piece.
