About KSAT Hyper
Hyper is a strategic initiative by Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) to redefine how space data is delivered, secured, and used. By extending the world's most trusted ground station network into low Earth orbit, Hyper is building a new layer of space infrastructure designed for speed, resilience, and sovereignty.
At its core, Hyper enables near-real-time access to space data anywhere on Earth. By combining an orbiting relay capability with KSAT's global ground network, Hyper drastically reduces latency between satellite tasking, data acquisition, and decision-making. This capability is increasingly critical for applications where timing, trust, and availability matter — including Earth observation, climate monitoring, security, defense, and commercial operations.
Hyper is not a single mission or a one-off system. It is a long-term infrastructure program designed to scale over time, support multiple customers and mission types, and integrate tightly with existing and future space systems. The first Hyper satellites are scheduled for launch in 2027, marking the transition from development to operations, and the starting point for a broader constellation and service evolution in the years that follow.
Joining Hyper means contributing to the early build-out of a strategically important space capability, working at the intersection of space systems, communications, and operations. The work is foundational, technically demanding, and mission-critical; it directly shapes how satellite services will be delivered at scale in the next decade.

About the role
As an R&D Engineer in Hyper, you will explore new technologies, methods, and architectures that can improve our products and programs. This is a hands-on role focused on engineering exploration: building prototypes, validating hypotheses, interfacing with research institutions, and producing decision-grade documentation that helps us move from ideas to implementable solutions.
What you will do
Conduct engineering exploration and research to evaluate new processes, tools, and technologies relevant to Hyper and its ecosystem.
Design, prototype, and model candidate solutions to test ideas and improve existing products (software, networking, systems, or ground/space interfaces as applicable).
Plan and execute experiments: define hypotheses, success criteria, test setups, and measurement approaches; iterate based on results.
Drive research collaborations and studies with external academic institutions, labs and end-users: define objectives, coordinate deliverables, and translate outputs into internal impact.
Produce high-quality documentation and reporting: experiment plans, design notes, technical trade-offs, results summaries, and recommendations.
Identify opportunities for improvement and propose innovative solutions to technical challenges, including risk/feasibility assessments and next-step plans.
Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and program stakeholders to ensure R&D outcomes are aligned with strategic priorities and can be actioned.
What we are looking for
Experience in engineering R&D, advanced prototyping, or applied research in a relevant technical domain.
Strong ability to turn ambiguous problems into structured investigations with clear outcomes.
Demonstrated skills in design and prototyping (software, systems, modeling/simulation, test setups—depending on your specialty).
Experience producing clear technical documentation and communicating results to mixed audiences (engineering leadership, stakeholders, partners).
Ability to work effectively across teams and with external collaborators.
A proactive, improvement-oriented mindset: you look for leverage points and propose practical innovations.
Nice to have
Experience collaborating with universities, research labs, or consortia (joint studies, publications, funded projects).
Familiarity with networking, distributed systems, simulation, or space/ground systems engineering.
Experience with data-driven evaluation methods (benchmarking, performance profiling, statistical reasoning).
Prior work in regulated or safety/security-relevant environments.
