Marvel’s 70th Anniversary variants were such a fun idea back then.
The framed border packed with Marvel characters gives these books a really recognizable style, and having Deadpool exploding right through the middle of it fits perfectly with his chaotic personality.
This was also right around the period where Deadpool was absolutely exploding in popularity and slowly turning into one of Marvel’s biggest characters. You could really feel Marvel leaning into him hard during this era.
And honestly, the clean white background makes the red costume pop even harder once it’s slabbed. Sometimes simpler covers display better than overloaded ones.
I’ve always had a soft spot for these themed Marvel variants because they instantly lock you into a specific era of collecting. The late-2000s Marvel event and variant scene was just different.
Plus… you can never really go wrong with a Deadpool cover featuring swords, guns and complete overkill. 😄
