The Donny Cates Venom era completely changed the character.
Before this run, Venom was already popular — but Cates took the mythology into full cosmic horror territory and turned the symbiotes into something ancient, terrifying, and genuinely epic.
And Dylan Brock became a huge piece of that new mythology.
This issue is one of the modern Venom keys that collectors started paying attention to almost immediately because you could tell Marvel was building toward something major.
The cover itself is just brutal too.
Stegman’s Venom looks absolutely monstrous here — massive teeth, oversized tongue, slime flying everywhere… pure classic nightmare Venom energy. The green splatter against the dark background makes the whole thing pop hard inside the slab.
Modern keys sometimes get overlooked compared to Bronze Age books, but this run has already cemented itself as one of the defining Venom stories ever written.
And a clean CGC 9.8 on a modern Marvel key? Always happy to have that in the collection. 🔥
