Before Marvel reclaimed the Star Wars license, Dark Horse absolutely carried the torch for expanded universe storytelling. And this 2013 relaunch felt HUGE when it dropped.
But honestly? The main reason I grabbed this one is that incredible Alex Ross cover.
The composition is pure classic Star Wars energy — Luke and Leia framing the piece, Vader standing dominant in the center, and the warm cinematic glow that Ross somehow always manages to make feel timeless. It genuinely looks like a theatrical poster more than a comic cover.
And being a fourth printing makes it a little more fun and unusual compared to the standard first print copies you usually see floating around.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Star Wars comics from the Dark Horse era. They just had a different atmosphere to them — darker, moodier and more experimental at times.
Definitely one of those slabs that looks even better in person than it does in photos.
