About Norrøna Canvas Telemark
Norrøna Canvas Hotel stands as a distinctive retreat nestled in the heart of Southern Norway's wilderness. Featuring 15 rooms, our hotel boasts a passionate team of outdoor enthusiasts including chefs, mountain bike guides, and bartender/housekeeping staff. Our season runs from late April to early October, providing ample opportunity for adventure seekers to explore the stunning landscapes of Telemark.
We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Head Chef for long term engagement starting from 2026 to take full ownership of our kitchen operations.
Norrøna Canvas offers a truly unique culinary environment. Our kitchen is built around a traditional wood-fired stove, which serves as the heart of our food preparation. This requires a chef who masters the art of open-flame cooking and appreciates a more tactile, authentic approach to gastronomy. In our restaurant, we also feature bespoke table-integrated grills, allowing guests to feel connected to the cooking process in a social, gourmet setting.

Main areas of responsibilities
- Executing high-quality menus that focus on local and organic ingredients, ensuring all dishes align with the brand’s gourmet identity and meet the nutritional needs of active guests.
- Overseeing daily kitchen operations, including inventory procurement, cost control and kitchen cleanliness. This also includes strategic work schedule planning to ensure optimal staffing levels during peak times while maintaining a balanced and efficient workload for the team
- Leading and mentoring the kitchen staff, in close collaboration with the hotel manager and ass. manager.
Qualifications
- Proven track record as Head Chef or Sous Chef with strong skills in gourmet-meal execution.
- Strong background in kitchen management, including inventory control, food cost analysis, and comprehensive staff scheduling to ensure smooth operations in a seasonal environment.
- You are highly proficient in English and a strong communicator, capable of leading a diverse team and interacting professionally with our guests.
- You thrive living and working close to nature and are willing to be available when needed. You are highly adaptable and are able to quickly adjust plans and priorities according to the hotel’s needs throughout the season.
- Class B driving licence
We believe you’ll succeed in this role if you are detail-oriented, dedicated to maintaining guest satisfaction, and committed to upholding the establishment’s standards of excellence.
