Director of research
Norges Bank, Norway’s central bank, promotes economic stability and manages key responsibilities in monetary policy, financial markets, and financial stability. We are now seeking a Director of Research. The Research Unit is recognized by the Research Council of Norway as an official research institute. As a Director of Research, you play a pivotal part in supporting Norges Bank’s key responsibilities by advancing policy-relevant research, fostering high standards in theoretical and empirical methods across the Bank, and supporting the further development of the data and analytical infrastructure.
The Director of Research reports to the Executive Director of Monetary Policy and serves as a member of the monetary policy management team. The research unit comprises 12 permanent research staff, plus research assistants and PhD interns and collaborates extensively with external researchers. The unit contributes to enhancing the Bank’s reputation as a trusted institution. This is a unique opportunity to combine academic rigor with strategic leadership in an institution that plays an important role in promoting economic stability in Norway.
Key responsibilites
- Ensure research supports decision-making by delivering policy-relevant insights and analytical tools in all the Bank's key policy areas.
- Lead, inspire, and develop a team of highly skilled researchers.
- Develop and execute the Bank’s research strategy.
- Engage actively in the management team in Monetary Policy, and play an active role in policy discussions.
- Drive collaboration within the Bank and build networks in Norway and internationally.
- Ownership and governance of microdata within Norges Bank.
Qualifications
- Strong research record with publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience from a relevant policy-making institution, preferably a central bank.
- Relevant leadership experience is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Fluent in a Scandinavian language. Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to lead in line with our leadership principles: set direction, empower others, build strong teams, and demonstrate care.
