This cover perfectly captures what made Secret Invasion work so well.
Paranoia.
Nobody knew who was real. Nobody knew who had already been replaced. And Marvel leaned HARD into that tension throughout the entire event.
The giant looming Skrull face behind the heroes makes this cover feel genuinely threatening, while the sketch art gives it this raw, unfinished intensity that fits the story perfectly.
Steve McNiven’s pencils are absolutely insane here too. You can really appreciate the detail when the colors are stripped away.
And honestly, the mid-2000s Marvel event period was just wild:
Civil War.
World War Hulk.
Secret Invasion.
Every event felt huge and connected, and collectors still chase books from that era because they defined modern Marvel storytelling for years afterward.
