A 3-year PhD position in Neuroimmunology is available at the Department of Neurology at Akershus University Hospital.


More about the position

Applications are invited for a PhD position financed by the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. The PhD student will be involved in a collaborative project between Akershus University Hospital, Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo, investigating the immune response in cervical lymph nodes in individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The work will involve handling of patient samples, molecular biology techniques, and bioinformatics. Other duties/opportunities include writing and collaborating on papers and attending and presenting at national/international conferences. The position will be based at Akershus University Hospital but involve close collaboration with the Department of Neurology at Oslo University Hospital.

The fellowship period is three years. The research fellow must take part in the approved PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

Requirements

  • A Master’s or equivalent degree in life sciences or a related field, or be a physician/MD with an interest in translational research
  • The Master’s thesis and the average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
  • The flexibility and ability to travel between Akershus University Hospital (Lørenskog) and Oslo University Hospital, as required by the research activities
