Project Manager - IKEA Sørlandet Transformation Project
Join IKEA as a Project Manager and play a key role in the transformation of IKEA Sørlandet. This is a temporary project assignment based at IKEA Sørlandet in Kristiansand, Norway. The project runs from September 2026 until mid-June 2027, with an expected start date as soon as possible. Remote work is possible during the initial phase of the project, before transitioning to an on-site role at IKEA Sørlandet from mid-October onwards, working closely with the project team and key stakeholders to deliver a successful transformation.
A unique opportunity to shape the future of IKEA Sørlandet
IKEA Sørlandet is embarking on a major transformation journey. We are redesigning the store from a two-floor layout into a more accessible, customer-focused, single-level shopping experience built for future growth.
To lead this journey, we are looking for an experienced Project Manager (Build-up Leader) who can turn plans into reality, navigate a complex stakeholder landscape, and inspire teams to deliver outstanding results.
This is not just a construction or fit-out project. It's a business transformation that will impact customers, co-workers, partners, and operations every day. Throughout the project, the store will remain fully operational, making careful planning, collaboration, and communication critical to success.
Your mission
As Project Manager, you will lead the implementation and commercial build-up of the IKEA Sørlandet transformation project, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
You will work closely with the project team and other stakeholders to create a future-ready store that delivers an even better customer experience while safeguarding the well-being and engagement of our co-workers throughout the journey.
Key responsibilities
Lead and coordinate the build-up and implementation activities across all project phases
Develop and drive detailed project plans, phasing plans, timelines, resource plans, and budgets
Ensure effective cost control, forecasting, and financial follow-up throughout the project
Coordinate materials, equipment, contractors, and service providers to ensure timely delivery and execution
Act as a key point of contact between the project team, store organisation, suppliers, and contractors
Secure smooth execution of retail fit-out and installation activities
Manage risks, dependencies, change requests, and re-phasing while maintaining project momentum
Ensure a safe and compliant working environment, including site readiness and safety requirements
Drive commercial readiness and operational preparedness before handover
Lead handover processes, documentation, sign-offs, and final project completion
Support clear communication and engagement with co-workers and stakeholders throughout the transformation
Who you are
You are an experienced project leader who thrives in complex environments and knows how to bring people together around a common goal. You combine strong execution skills with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and create clarity in situations with many moving parts.
You are comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery and have a proven track record of leading large-scale projects involving multiple stakeholders.
We believe you have:
Strong project management skills with responsibility for complex projects from planning through implementation
Strong cost management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial follow-up
Extensive experience leading teams, stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors
Experience from retail, construction, fit-out, infrastructure, facilities, or similar project environments
Excellent planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills
The ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and changing environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage people at all levels
Fluency in English, both written and spoken
Why join this project?
This is a unique opportunity to play a key leadership role in transforming IKEA Sørlandet into a future-ready store designed for growth, accessibility, and great customer experiences.
In this role, you will be at the heart of a high-impact transformation, where smart use of space, innovative solutions, and collaboration come together to shape the future of IKEA Sørlandet.
If you are passionate about leading complex transformation projects and delivering results through people, we would love to hear from you.
