General Manager Nordic APMU
We are seeking a motivated and highly skilled General Manager/Project Leader for a full-time, permanent position at the Nordic Athlete Passport Management Unit (NAPMU), hosted by the Norwegian Doping Control Laboratory (NLD). The responsibilities will include the daily handling and evaluation of biological profiles (Athlete Biological Passport), providing testing-related advice to clients, obtaining expert assessments, and managing further case processing in accordance with WADA’s regulations.
The Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) is a fundamental tool in the fight against doping and consists of three modules: the hematological, steroid, and endocrine modules. In the ABP, selected biomarkers are monitored over time to detect blood doping and the use of endogenous steroids and growth hormone.
Athlete Passport Management Units (APMUs) administer and manage the biological passports within the ABP program. In addition, the APMUs assist Anti-Doping Organizations in planning tests to ensure high‑quality, up‑to‑date, evidence‑based testing programs. The tasks of the APMUs are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC) and the ABP Guidelines.
The position holder will be part of NLD’s APMU team, which consists of managers for the hematological, steroid, and endocrine modules, working partly within the APMU and partly in the laboratory with the analysis of doping control samples and anti‑doping–related research. It is expected that the General Manager will also participate in the laboratory’s activities (e.g., research) beyond the APMU work.
The Norwegian Doping Control Laboratory (NLD) is a section under the Department of Pharmacology at Oslo University Hospital and conducts doping analyses in sport on control samples from, among others, Anti-Doping Norway, Anti-Doping Denmark, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Oslo University Hospital is a workplace with great diversity. We believe this is crucial for solving our tasks in the best possible way. We want this diversity to be reflected among the applicants for our positions, and we encourage all qualified candidates, regardless of background, to apply!
Tasks and responsibilities for the position:
- Daily follow-up of biological passports (ABP); evaluation of hematological profiles, and potentially also steroid and endocrine profiles.
- Providing guidance and recommendations to clients regarding test planning and the selection of specialized analyses.
- Obtaining expert reviews of atypical profiles, compiling ABP documentation packages, and following up on Adverse Passport Findings in accordance with TDAPMU.
- Communicating with clients and ABP experts regarding agreements and invoicing.
- Presenting annual plans, budgets, and accounts to the NAPMU Foundation Board.
- Some international travel should be expected, for example annual visits to the Nordic Anti-Doping Organizations and relevant conferences.
Required qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in exercise physiology/sports medicine, biosciences, or another relevant scientific discipline (e.g., analytical chemistry, biology, pharmacology, pharmacy).
- Excellent written and oral English skills.
It will be considered an advantage if you:
- Have experience from anti-doping work (an Anti-Doping Organization or a WADA‑accredited laboratory).
- Have knowledge of the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).
- Have some experience with administrative tasks.
Relevant documentation should be attached to the application.
Personal qualities
- Able to work efficiently, in a structured manner, and with strong analytical skills.
