Join the Global Adjusting team at Gard
We are looking to strengthen our Global Adjusting team with a new colleague in Oslo or Bergen. We are seeking a Claims Adjuster who can help us deliver world‑class service to our shipowner clients.
Providing a first‑class claims service is at the core of what we do. Our adjusting team handles the full spectrum of marine claims - from machinery breakdowns, groundings, collisions, and fires to General Average, third‑party liability and recoveries.
We assess the correct compensation based on Hull & Machinery and Loss of Hire conditions, combined with the technical circumstances of the claim.
As a Claims Adjuster, you will enjoy a high degree of autonomy, close collaboration with highly competent colleagues across Gard’s global claims environment, and a diverse client portfolio.
Key responsibilities:
- In-house adjusting of marine claims, based on a variety of policy conditions.
- Work closely with colleagues in the adjusting team, claims handlers, and underwriters for your client portfolio.
- Review and approve third‑party adjustments.
- Assisting and advising clients and brokers on marine claims adjusting issues, including the interpretation of policy terms and conditions.
- Participation in client meetings and market events, promoting Gard’s claims lead product and adjusting capabilities.
You will also be asked to give internal advice and be involved in complex claims where a high degree of problem-solving and commercial skills are required.
Requirements:
- Preferably a maritime, shipping or logistics‑related education and/or a background in ship operations, marine accounting, technical, insurance, legal, or nautical/seagoing experience.
- Direct experience from adjusting marine claims is strongly preferred for a senior adjuster role, but candidates with relevant industry experience and strong potential are also encouraged to apply.
- Training in relevant insurance conditions will be provided for the right candidate.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in written and spoken English.
- An eye for detail and the ability to process large volumes of data, technical and legal texts.
- Structured, organised, and able to work independently with a solution‑oriented mindset, also contributing to a collaborative, team‑oriented culture.
- Excellent IT skills, including an interest in AI tools and advanced use of Excel.
- Motivation to learn, grow and share knowledge.
We perform background checks on all relevant candidates through our partner EY
