Shaping the future of shipping, we are looking for a Project Engineer - Decarbonization and Fleet Performance
Gearbulk is an international shipping group providing high-quality transportation services for various industrial sectors. Founded in 1968 by Kristian Gerhard Jebsen in Bergen, Norway. Gearbulk is headquartered in Switzerland and is owned by the Japanese company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL). In 2017, Gearbulk and Grieg Star established the joint venture G2 Ocean, headquartered in Bergen, Norway. The group operates the world’s largest fleet of open hatch vessels, specifically designed and equipped to transport unitized cargoes such as forest products, steels, non-ferrous metals, and project cargo.

In this role, you will drive projects that increase efficiency, reduce emissions, and support our vision for a greener shipping industry. Key Responsibilities
- Lead decarbonization projects by researching, implementing, and monitoring initiatives that reduce emissions and improve fleet efficiency
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery
- Monitor and analyze fleet performance data to identify and drive operational improvements
- Support ESG and sustainability reporting and initiatives
- Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and environmental targets in collaboration with internal and external partners
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends to propose innovative maritime solutions
- Travel internationally, including to Eastern regions
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering (Marine, Mechanical, or Naval Architecture)
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in shipping, shipbuilding, or vessel improvement projects
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written, and comfortable collaborating across cultures
- Excellent analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Must be eligible and willing to travel internationally for project-related activities
- Familiarity with structured project methodologies and project management skills is an advantage
- Knowledge of maritime regulations, classification standards, and safety protocols
- Experience sailing or working onboard a vessel is a plus, but not required for the role

Location & Reporting
This position is based in Bergen, Norway, with required international travel, reporting to the Head of Projects and Technology.
