Want to join a Norwegian robotics adventure?
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead and continuously evolve the long-term architecture of wheel.me’s autonomous mobility platform. You will work hands-on with our engineering teams to shape a modular, scalable, and robust software stack through well-defined principles, clear interfaces, and production-quality contributions.
Your work will define how wheel.me software is designed, tested, and delivered. You will drive a continuous architectural discipline, ensuring that feature development, technical decisions, and platform evolution remain aligned with a coherent long-term vision while supporting a fast-moving engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
Continuously evolve and maintain the end-to-end architecture of wheel.me’s software platform, ensuring clarity, modularity, and long-term maintainability.
Act as a hands-on technical contributor by prototyping, implementing core architectural patterns, validating interfaces, and writing production-quality code.
Act as a key technical decision-maker who influences platform direction and long-term technical strategy.
Promote and maintain architectural principles, code organization standards, well-defined interfaces, and platform-wide guidelines for scalability, observability, performance, and fault tolerance, and mentor teams in applying them consistently.
Design clear communication patterns and integration interfaces across onboard compute, cloud services, and embedded firmware, and collaborate closely with our engineering teams to ensure the entire system integrates smoothly and scales cohesively.
Strengthen system reliability and testability by contributing to automated testing, simulation workflows, and hardware-in-the-loop validation.
Drive architectural integrity during feature development, ensuring technical decisions align with the long-term platform vision and overall system cohesion.
Lead and participate in design reviews, cross-team technical discussions, and roadmap planning to ensure shared direction and alignment across teams.
Foster a culture of architectural thinking, knowledge sharing, collaboration, and a strong quality mindset.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Cybernetics, or similar.
5+ years of experience designing and developing distributed complex, multi-component software systems, ideally real-time or device-level, including taking architectural responsibility.
Strong foundation in software design patterns, API design, and separation of concerns.
Proficiency in C++ and/or Python.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, simulation, or validation tools.
Passion for translating user needs and operational constraints into technical requirements and architectural priorities.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to drive alignment across teams.
Proven ability to lead architectural transitions and long-term technical roadmaps, driving system-level design decisions and producing clear, high-quality technical proposals.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with distributed systems, real-time communication, or robotics middleware.
Experience with embedded software integration, hardware abstraction layers, and real-time constraints.
Experience with safety-critical, industrial, or high-reliability systems.
Experience implementing or integrating driver level interfaces and communication protocols such as CAN bus, serial, or Ethernet
What We Offer
A strategic role where your architectural vision directly shapes the future of a world-first robotics product.
A dynamic, innovative, and collaborative engineering environment.
A young, forward-thinking, and international team.
A centrally located office at Skøyen, Oslo, close to public transport.
Flexible working hours and remote work options.
Competitive salary and benefits package.
Opportunities for professional growth, leadership influence, and deep involvement in advanced robotics development.
