Senior Concept Lead

Ready to turn ambitious maritime concepts into technically credible systems?

At Kongsberg Discovery, we develop advanced technologies for the undersea domain, ranging from autonomous and remotely operated USVs and AUVs (Uncrewed Surface Vehicles and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles) to sonar, sensing, communications and other undersea products. By combining platforms, sensors, software, autonomy and operational insight, we create integrated capabilities for some of the worlds most demanding maritime environments. Kongsberg Discovery, and Uncrewed Platforms in particular, has the leading role in KONGSBERGs undersea warfare initiative, while drawing on relevant capabilities and expertise from across the wider KONGSBERG group.

To strengthen our Uncrewed Platforms team, we are looking for a senior concept lead who can help shape future solutions for undersea warfare (USW). You will work where business development, operational needs and technology meet, translating early ideas into system concepts that can be assessed, prioritized, tested and developed using our existing product portfolio and selected new technologies

This is not a role where you receive a complete specification and work within one engineering discipline. You will bring people and technologies together, establish structure when the starting point is uncertain, and make early concepts and ideas concrete enough for sound decisions and further development. You will work closely with business development, strategic sales, product management, R&D, and relevant research communities while maintaining a clear view of technical feasibility, interfaces, effort and risk.

Activities and responsibilities

  • Shape and prioritise opportunities: Turn operational and market needs into credible concepts and decision-ready recommendations.
  • Develop and assess system concepts: Combine KONGSBERG capabilities and assess architecture, gaps, resources, dependencies and risks.
  • Coordinate early-phase concepts: Bring together commercial, product, engineering and research teams for feasibility work, experiments and demonstrations.
  • Move concepts into execution: Transfer prioritised concepts with clear scope and ownership, support roadmaps and customer dialogue, and close unsuitable initiatives.

At KONGSBERG, we believe that diversity fuels innovation. We encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet every requirement. Your unique perspective is valuable to us. Your skills, attitude and perspective could be exactly what we are looking for!

We believe you will succeed in this role if you

  • Have a strong technical background, preferably a masters degree or equivalent in engineering, technology or a related discipline, and experience with complex maritime, defence or autonomous systems.
  • Understand system architecture sufficiently to challenge assumptions and identify interfaces, trade-offs and dependencies across engineering disciplines.
  • Combine technical depth with a practical understanding of how products, demonstrations and development activities are organised and delivered.
  • Create order from ambiguity, lead cross-functional assessment and prioritisation, and build a clear basis for decisions.
  • Build trust across organisational boundaries and constructively challenge ambitious ideas, established solutions and unrealistic assumptions.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Norwegian and English.

Experience from naval operations, undersea warfare, anti-submarine warfare, mine warfare, maritime surveillance or defence technology is an advantage, but not required. What matters most is your ability to understand complex technologies, connect the right expertise and turn emerging needs into realistic system solutions. You can identify what is essential, ask the right questions and assess how opportunities should be pursued.

This employment requires a pre-employment check procedure and security clearance in accordance with company security standards, role or site requirements. Please note that this might affect the offer process or employment.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to shape new maritime capabilities from the earliest concept stage.
  • Collaboration with leading specialists in autonomous maritime systems, sensors, software and undersea technology.
  • A varied role combining analysis, concept development, workshops, integration activities, testing and demonstrations.
  • The opportunity to both see and influence ideas moving from sketches and system models to real-world trials at sea.

Where you will be working
