These stories tackle universal childhood themes like fear, determination, and navigating the world with gentle humour and comfort. Independent reading age of 7+ years of age.
1. The Comforting Introduction: Starting with Fears
The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark: This is the perfect first book. Because a fear of the dark is so universally understood by young children, it is highly relatable and introduces Tomlinson’s comforting storytelling style perfectly.
2. Expanding Horizons: Curiosity and Determination
The Hen Who Wouldn't Give Up: A great second read. It shifts the focus from overcoming a personal fear to developing grit, persistence, and problem-solving.
The Cat Who Wanted to Go Home: This expands their world geographically (moving between France and England). It balances the excitement of an accidental adventure with the safe, comforting reassurance of wanting to return to family.
The Gorilla Who Wanted To Grow Up: The core theme is maturity, learning to care for younger siblings, family roles, and the transition from play to responsibility.

I work as a teacher and these have been weeded from a classroom library. The money will go towards a charity. Two of the covers are more worn than the others but the four books still have much reading life in them and are a bargain!
