Beskrivelse av varen
Tilstand: Pent brukt - I god stand
The books follow a small, determined, and fiercely independent young girl called Sophie whose lifelong ambition is to grow up and become a "lady farmer". The books trace her adventures, her interactions with her family (her parents and older identical twin brothers), and her ongoing feud with her next-door neighbour, Dawn. Her ultimate mentor and supporter is her elderly Scottish great-great-aunt, Aunt Al.
This is a summary of Sophie's adventures:
• Sophie's Snail: At age four, Sophie actively starts saving her pocket money to buy a farm, routinely caring for small backyard creatures like woodlice and her favourite yellow snail.
• Sophie Hits Six: Turning six years old, Sophie successfully starts school, conquers the school sports day, and continues accumulating animal friends.
• Sophie in the Saddle: During a seaside holiday, Sophie meets a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig, learns how to ride a pony named Bumblebee, and welcomes a terrier puppy named Puddle into her life.
• Sophie Is Seven: Sophie diligently schemes to raise more farm funds with a sponsored walk around her garden, takes formal riding lessons, and performs at a school concert.
The target reading age for the Sophie books generally spans from 5 to 10 years old, depending on how the books are being read:
- Reading Aloud (Ages 5–7): The short, digestible chapters and gentle, humorous storytelling make these books excellent for parents or teachers to read aloud to younger children
- Independent Reading (Ages 7–10): The vocabulary and format are perfect for early readers transitioning into their first chapter books.
Because the series is written for young, transitional readers, each installment functions effectively as a standalone story with short, self-contained chapters. While the books do follow a linear timeline from her fourth birthday to her eighth birthday, Dick King-Smith gently recaps major details whenever they matter—such as reminding the reader that Sophie wants to be a "lady farmer" or how she acquired a specific pet. There are 2 books that can also be added to the collection from elsewhere: Sophie's Tom and Sophie's Lucky.
