Principal Engineer – Subsea Structures & Piping

Want to Help Solve One of the World's Greatest Challenges?

Access to clean water is essential for people, communities, and industries, yet water scarcity is one of the fastest-growing global challenges. At Waterise, we are developing groundbreaking technology that transforms seawater into fresh water in a more sustainable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective way. By combining Norwegian subsea expertise with innovative water treatment technology, we are helping secure access to clean water for millions of people around the world. We are now looking for talented and passionate colleagues who want to join us on this exciting journey and make a real difference

About the role

Waterise is pioneering a new class of subsea desalination systems that produce fresh water offshore, at scale, with significantly reduced reliance on energy-intensive high-pressure pumping. By placing the reverse osmosis process on the seabed, the system uses natural hydrostatic pressure as part of the desalination process. The technology builds on proven subsea engineering disciplines from offshore oil and gas, but applies them in a new and purposeful way: delivering sustainable freshwater infrastructure from the seabed.

We are looking for a Principal Engineer - Subsea Structures & Piping to take discipline ownership for the structural and piping design of our subsea desalination system. Based in Oslo, you will develop the design basis, define load cases, perform structural and piping assessments, select materials, and ensure that specifications are carried through into fabrication, testing and installation. This is a hands-on senior engineering role: you will be expected to work directly with calculations, specifications, supplier documentation and technical decisions - not only review and approve the work of others.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the structural and piping design basis, define load cases, and perform (or directly oversee) structural and piping analysis to recognized codes
  • Write the standards and specifications for structures, piping, connections and fabrication
  • Specify and technically evaluate structures, piping spools, connectors and fabrication scopes for procurement, including reviewing vendor engineering documentation
  • Define material selection, corrosion protection, welding and NDT requirements
  • Drive qualification and design verification testing, and responsible for yard FAT procedures
  • Act as the technical point of contact for Package Responsible Engineers working within the discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Detailed Engineering) and the construction site during fabrication

Qualifications

  • MSc in Mechanical, Structural, Marine or Subsea Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience from subsea or offshore projects - structures, piping, connections and fabrication
  • Structural and piping analysis to recognised codes
  • Experience in CAD software (Solid Works, Inventor)
  • Solid knowledge of material selection, corrosion protection, welding and NDT requirements
  • Experience in fabrication, FAT and installation at yards and suppliers
  • Fluent English required; Norwegian is an advantage
  • Good experience in Microsoft Office

We offer

  • Hands-on ownership of a core technical discipline in a company developing genuinely novel subsea water technology
  • Involvement across the full lifecycle from concept and calculation through procurement, fabrication, testing and installation
  • Cross discipline team work

We have created a concise and engaging digital introduction that provides valuable insight into Waterise, our technology, and the opportunity ahead.
