Join poLight as Mechanical Engineer

Tønsberg, Norway | International applicants welcome | Relocation & visa support provided

Could your next engineering challenge take you to Norway?

Are you a hands-on Mechanical Engineer who enjoys taking complex products from concept through design, development and into production?

Would you like to work on innovative optical technology that is helping shape the next generation of cameras, imaging systems, wearables, augmented reality and industrial vision?

And would you consider relocating to Tønsberg, Norway — a beautiful coastal location offering an exceptional quality of life, while working for an international technology company?

If so, this could be an exciting opportunity to join poLight.

The Opportunity

poLight is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join its engineering and R&D activities in Tønsberg.

You will work on the mechanical development and optimisation of innovative optical products and systems, collaborating closely with colleagues across engineering, R&D, manufacturing, suppliers and customers.

This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems rather than simply managing them.

You could be involved in projects spanning:

  • Mechanical design and development of complex products and systems

  • Taking concepts through development and towards mass production

  • Design for manufacturing and assembly

  • Mechanical optimisation and reliability

  • Rapid prototyping and evaluation

  • Working with external suppliers and manufacturing partners

  • 2D and 3D CAD design

  • Supporting engineering activities from R&D through to customer and production requirements

  • Technical problem solving, testing and troubleshooting

  • Working as part of multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, electrical, optical and systems engineering

What We're Looking For

You may come from a range of industries.

Your exact background is less important than your ability to demonstrate strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and experience developing real products.

You are likely to have:

  • A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline

  • Experience designing complex mechanical systems or products

  • Practical experience with mechanical product development

  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

  • Experience working with suppliers, subcontractors or manufacturing partners

  • Experience with prototyping and taking products towards production

  • An understanding of reliability, testing and mechanical optimisation

  • Strong analytical and experimental problem-solving skills

  • Good 2D/3D CAD experience

  • A practical, hands-on approach to engineering and troubleshooting

  • The ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Strong communication skills and good written documentation

  • Excellent English, both written and spoken

Experience with micro-mechanical or micro-actuation solutions would be advantageous, but is not essential.

What Makes This Opportunity Different?

At poLight, you won't simply be maintaining an established product line.

You will be working with engineers developing technology at the heart of next-generation imaging systems — where mechanical engineering interacts with optics, electronics, MEMS and sophisticated camera architectures.

poLight's technology is already being applied across markets including AR/MR, wearables, smartphones and industrial applications, with further opportunities emerging in areas such as machine vision and healthcare.

Relocation to Norway

This position is open to candidates from anywhere in the world.

You do not need to be currently living in Norway.

If you have the right engineering experience and would consider making Norway your new home, poLight will provide relocation and visa support.

The role is based at poLight's headquarters in Tønsberg, giving you the opportunity to combine an international technology career with life in one of Norway's most attractive coastal areas.

For someone looking for a genuine change — professionally and personally — this could be a very interesting move.
