This series was one of the books that really pulled a lot of readers into DC during the 2000s.
Jeph Loeb absolutely understood the contrast between Batman and Superman — not just as heroes, but as people. One driven by hope, the other by preparation and paranoia. And somehow, together, they just worked perfectly.
And Ed McGuinness? His art on this run was explosive.
Huge action, exaggerated anatomy, cinematic splash pages… it felt larger than life in the best possible way. This cover alone screams that era of comics.
I’ve always loved how dark and imposing Batman looks here while Superman walks forward almost like an unstoppable force. The symbolism is simple, but incredibly effective.
Even though this is a third printing, it still feels special to me because Superman/Batman #1 became such an important modern DC launch title.
And honestly? The Public Enemies storyline is still one of the most fun Batman/Superman stories out there.
