There are Batman covers… and then there are covers that just hit different.
Jock absolutely crushed the atmosphere on this one. The fog, the silhouette, the bats swarming around the cape — it feels less like a superhero comic and more like a psychological horror poster.
And honestly, The Black Mirror deserves every bit of praise it gets.
Scott Snyder took Gotham into a darker, more unsettling direction here, and pairing him with Jock and Francesco Francavilla was the perfect creative storm. The entire run has this grim, noir horror vibe that stands apart from a lot of other Batman stories.
What makes it even more interesting is that Bruce Wayne isn’t Batman here — Dick Grayson is under the cowl. And somehow the story still manages to feel deeply Gotham-centric while exploring the psychological damage tied to the city itself.
This is one of those modern books I genuinely think has earned its reputation over time rather than being pure hype.
And that cover in a 9.8 slab? Yeah… this one is staying in the collection.
