Love it or hate it, The New 52 was one of the biggest shakeups in modern comic history.
And this book was right at the center of it.
DC completely rebooted large portions of their universe in 2011, giving readers modernized origins, redesigned costumes, and fresh jumping-on points for almost every major character.
For Superman, Grant Morrison took things back to basics.
This version of Clark felt younger, rougher, and more aggressive than the classic Superman many readers were used to. Jeans, work boots, a T-shirt cape phase… and honestly, it gave the character a very Golden Age “champion of the people” vibe again.
And Jim Lee’s cover here just screams early 2010s DC energy.
Sharp lines, armored suit design, cinematic posing — it became one of the defining visual styles of the New 52 era.
Whether people loved or criticized the reboot, there’s no denying these books became major modern DC milestones.
And Action Comics carrying the #1 numbering again gave the relaunch even more impact considering the legendary history behind that title.
A CGC 9.4 is still a really clean copy for a modern key like this, especially from an era where a lot of collectors were grabbing multiple variants and speculating hard on the reboot.
