About the DepartmentThe Engineering Analysis & Materials Technology department is Bergen Engines Group’s centre of excellence for structural and dynamic analysis of engines, gensets, and critical components.
We own shaftline dynamics for the complete drivetrain (engine–generator/gear –shafting–propeller) and are responsible for reliability assessments, simulation methodologies, and verification programs. The team supports new product development, portfolio improvements, engine deliveries, and OEM/Service operations.
Role Purpose
As a Senior R&D Engineer – Dynamic Analysis, you will independently perform advanced dynamic analyses and act as a key contributor to technical quality, reliability, and engineering problem-solving within dynamic systems and shaftline-related topics.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead dynamic analysis work for complex components, systems, and investigations
Define modelling strategies, assumptions, and analysis scope
Perform 3D multi-body simulations of complete engine systems
Execute component-level vibration analysis and optimization (FEM dynamics)
Conduct driveline/shaftline dynamic analyses using in-house tools and codes
Interpret results related to vibration behavior, system response, and technical risk
Plan and perform vibration measurements, correlate test and simulation results
Support engine deliveries, plant simulations, and non-conformance handling
Contribute to reliability and risk assessments
Support Test, Inspection, Verification & Validation planning and technical follow-up
Review analysis work and mentor less experienced engineers
Drive method development and efficiency improvements (e.g., Python, MATLAB, model reuse)
Perform and document analyses in compliance with classification society rules (e.g., DNV, ABS), supporting certification and approval activities
Qualifications & Experience:
MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or similar
Strong experience in dynamic analysis, preferably within engines, rotating machinery, or drivetrain systems
Competence in:
3D multi-body simulation (MBS)
FEM dynamics (modal, harmonic, transient, FRF)
Vibration analysis and measurement techniques
Experience with shaftline/driveline dynamics is desirable
Programming/scripting skills (Python, MATLAB) for automation and method development
Personal qualities:
Ability to work independently with complex technical challenges and high responsibility
Strong communication skills and ability to operate effectively in a complex, cross-functional organization
