Market Analyst

We are seeking a data-driven, motivated, and structured Market Analyst to join our team of shipping market experts in Bergen, Norway.

In this role, you will leverage our technology to conduct research, analyze market data, and create insightful market reports to help G2 Ocean make important business decisions that contribute to the continued growth and success of the company.

The candidate should have a background in business economics or experience in a data-focused role. You should have an interest, curiosity and, preferably, experience within the shipping market and you enjoy working in a fast-paced, international environment. With strong analytical and communications skills, the right candidate is self-motivated, resourceful, and a team player who can also work independently.

The role is based at G2 Ocean’s head office in Bergen, Norway and is part of the Business Planning department.

Primary responsibilities:

The job holder will be responsible for:

• Researching, monitoring, analyzing and interpreting data related to the shipping market, macroeconomic trends, customers and competitors, as well as other factors impacting G2 Ocean’s operations.
• Providing reports and presentations of actionable insights and suggestions based on various analyses to relevant teams to help the organisation understand the current market and make the right strategic decisions for the company.
• Monitor and report on fleet and new building developments within the open hatch, semi-open, multipurpose, and dry bulk segments.

Other duties and responsibilities:

• Keep a close dialogue with G2 Ocean’s offices and stakeholders in the industry to get the best possible information to use in the analysis.
• Contribute to the long-term forecasting and trade budget and forecasting process.
• Coordinate and participate in the Commercial Derivate Forum, processing bunker hedging, FFA (Freight Forward Agreements) and other commercial risk mitigating measures.
• Contributing to strategic and ad-hoc internal projects.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

• University degree in business economics, statistics or another related field, preferably Master’s level.
• Acumen and knowledge of statistical packages, search engines, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and data collection methods.
• Excellent knowledge of statistical tools and knowledge of data collection methods
• Ability to interpret large amounts of data and to multi-task
• Preferably market research analysis experience.
• Profound business understanding with global perspectives

• Fluent in English
• An interest, curiosity and, preferably, experience within the shipping market
• Work experience, within Shipping or other relevant industries is preferred but not required
