Are you our next Application System Engineer ready for the field?
Join us in continuing to revolutionize ocean space operations!
We are seeking a technically strong and hands-on Application System Engineer who thrives in the intersection between advanced engineering and real-world operations. In this role, you will work with the installation, commissioning, and support of autonomous maritime systems, including vessels, sensors, and control systems. You will play a key role in ensuring that our systems operate reliably in demanding environments by working closely with customers and internal engineering teams during delivery, commissioning, and operational phases.
The position requires a structured approach, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to independently manage technical tasks in field environments. As part of our Service & Aftermarket team, you are the face of our technology in the field, bridging the gap between complex automation and successful maritime operations.
In this role, you will report directly to our Service Manager.
Your key responsibilities:
Perform installation, commissioning, and testing of autonomous systems and vessels at customer sites globally.
Work hands-on with PLC-based automation systems, control interfaces, and the integration of navigation sensors.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to automation, networking, and system integration in the field.
Support customers during operational start-up, providing technical training and product demonstrations to ensure success.
Execute maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on deployed systems to maintain high operational uptime.
Document work performed and contribute to structured service reports and the continuous improvement of commissioning procedures.
Collaborate closely with internal teams in software, automation, and project engineering to deliver robust technical solutions.
Ensure company compliance by continuously seeking improvements and reporting deviations.
Relevant expertise in this role:
Technical education (BSc or Master) within automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, control Systems, or similar. Relevant practical experience may compensate for formal education.
Experience with PLC systems, industrial automation, and networking.
Understanding of sensor integration, navigation systems, or maritime systems.
Background from system commissioning, field service, or integration projects is highly valued.
Familiarity with Linux-based systems and version control (Git/GitLab) is an advantage.
Basic programming experience in Python or C/C++ is a plus, but not required.
Experience from military operations or defense-related environments is a strong advantage, and the ability to obtain Norwegian security clearance (K), or eligibility to obtain one.
As an international company, we require fluency in both Norwegian and English; other languages are a big bonus.
Who are you, then?
Structured and systematic in your approach to tasks and responsibilities.
Comfortable working within technical procedures and following project plans to ensure quality.
A strong problem-solver with a practical, hands-on mindset.
Able to work independently and take initiative, especially when in field environments.
A clear and effective communicator, both towards customers and internal teams.
Motivated by delivering robust and reliable technical solutions that perform in demanding conditions.
Willing and able to travel internationally to support our global operations.
What we offer:
A stimulating and dynamic work environment at the forefront of innovative maritime technology.
A meaningful job with an important social mission. The autonomy we create ensures sustainable, efficient, and safe ocean space operations worldwide
A collaborative and growing team of passionate and highly competent professionals.
Opportunities for professional growth and skill development.
A comprehensive and well-organized benefits package.
A strong sense of community, plenty of humour, and social activities that bind us together in a busy everyday life.
Trondheim's coolest office spaces right by the waterfront at Brattørkaia (and we mean it!)
While you will be based at our HQ in Trondheim, the position requires national and international travel to support our global operations.
Ready to join the team? We're already excited to meet you!
If you have any questions about the position, don't hesitate to contact our Service Manager Sebastian Minfjord, or our Head of People and Culture Anja Vollan.

Om arbeidsgiveren
Since 2005, Maritime Robotics has pioneered and led the development of advanced sea drones (Uncrewed Surface Vessels USVs) and maritime autonomy. Our core technology, the autonomous navigation system (ANS), enables safe and efficient remote and autonomous operations at sea.
These robotic solutions are vital for precise seabed mapping, ocean research, securing marine infrastructure, and operations in challenging environments. Globally deployed ANS and USVs contribute to sustainable, efficient, and safe maritime navigation, minimizing fuel use. In today’s world, our technology is also crucial for protecting communities and assets. We see growing demand from defence, security, hydrography, marine construction, and the energy sector.
