The Institute of Clinical Medicine has a vacant position as Adjunct Professor/Associate Professor of Medical Biochemistry. The part-time academic position (20 %) is combined with a full-time (100 %) senior consultant position at Akershus University Hospital, Department of Multidisciplinary Laboratory Medicine and Medical Biochemistry.

Relating to the main position:

The Department of Multidisciplinary Laboratory Medicine and Medical Biochemistry includes seven sections: Sections for (1) Sampling, (2) Sample Handling, (3) Clinical Chemistry, (4) Hematology, Coagulation and Flow Cytometry, (5) Immunology, (6) Gene Technology and (7) Medical Sciences, Research and Development. The department has a total of 140 employees and performs 6.4 million analyses per year. We offer a good working environment with a high academic level. The department is accredited in accordance with ISO / EN 15189.

The Department of Multidisciplinary Laboratory Medicine and Medical Biochemistry is one of the country's largest departments for medical biochemistry. The department also performs analyses within other laboratory disciplines and is organized in a matrix structure where the medical specialists are responsible for analyses within their respective fields. In addition to a complete standard repertoire within medical biochemistry, the department offers a wide diagnostic repertoire of hemoglobinopathies. Our department is the only Norwegian laboratory performing biochemical diagnostics of dementia.

The department has four positions for senior consultant, one of which has university affiliation (professor II), two positions for residents specializing in medical biochemistry and five researchers. The department's research activity is increasing, and currently two of our consultants are enrolled in the PhD program at the University of Oslo.

We are seeking a senior consultant who also can hold a position as Professor II / Associate Professor (20%). All applicants must apply online.

This position was established with a specific aim to expand the research competence of the Department of Multidisciplinary Laboratory Medicine and Medical Biochemistry, and the successful applicant will have an important role in shaping the future research within medical biochemistry in the department. The research strategy of the Akershus University Hospital encourages integration of basic and clinical research.
40 % of the time may be used for research and teaching.

 

Requirements

  • Authorization and medical license issued by the Norwegian Directorate of Health.

  • Certified qualifications in the specialty of Medical Biochemistry issued by the Norwegian Directorate of Health or equivalent competence in medical biochemistry.

  • Applicants who do not speak Norwegian, Swedish or Danish must acquire such skills within two years following their appointment and must be able to teach in English in the interim period

  • Applicants should hold a strong record in research within medical biochemistry and should also have on-going research activity.

  • Experience and competence in translational research will be considered an advantage.

Interpersonal skills and the ability to create an attractive research environment, plans for research and ambitions relating to the applicant's personal teaching practice will be emphasized. The successful applicant will participate in teaching of medical students in all areas of medical biochemistry at the University of Oslo. As a main rule, interviews will be held and references collected. Applicants may also be required to give a trial lecture.
