Selling a rare collectors item 1979 Gibson Grabber G-3 Bass Guitar in Wine Red.
I’m selling this as a professional touring musician (through my wife’s profile) and am not interested in a trade of instruments.
This bass is in good condition for its age (46 years old!), and it plays and sounds amazing.
The bridge, strap pins, knobs, pots and caps have been replaced. The knobs are currently mismatched as seen in photos but the regular Les Paul knobs are essentially a direct replacement for the originals (as seen on the tone knob).
The bridge has been replaced with a Leo Quan Badass Bass Bridge II. The strap pins have been replaced with DiMarzio ClipLocks.
Can include used DiMarzio strap if needed. The back of the neck has been sanded(it is very smooth and fast playing) which is quite common on these, and it is straight with no issues.
The only maintenance need will be the pickup mounting, as the bottom pickup needs new screws and likely some wood filling to reinforce the screw threading (the pickup currently sits loose in the cavity). This should be an easy job for a guitar tech, and you should probably have them reinforce every pickup while at it. All pickups otherwise work as normal.
You will notice typical surface scratches and dings you would expect from an instrument this old when held up close, but it has no major dents, chips or exposed wood and looks almost mint from any distance.
4.2kg weight. No case included.
Note: There were only 9 Wine Red G-3s ever produced. The relative mint quality of the finish indicates a likely chance of a refinish having been done at some point in its life, but I cannot say for sure. It looks incredibly nice either way.
