FYI:
Although it is called the โepiphyllum orchid cactusโ it is not an orchid but a cactus. Like an orchid, the epiphyllum is an epiphyte. But not parasitic! It sustains itself by absorbing sustenance from the air instead of from the vegetation on which it fastens.
Epiphyllum are an epyphitic cacti as the name suggests.
They also have tremendous blooms. These flowers are impressive in size, color, and often times fragrance!
The fragrance of Epiphyllum is admirable - it is very strong yet very gentle and cannot be confused with anything else.
A single bloom on certain ''orchid cacti'' has the ability to incense an entire house.
These are the most majestic of hanging plants, easy to handle, and include a group of miniature or basket varieties.
There is even a series of compact, yet free-flowering hybrids for those with limited growing areas indoors or out.
Epiphyllum / Disocactus , aka Fishbone Cactus is an epiphytic cactus with smooth, green skin and extensively branched stems native to Mexico. It goes by many common names like zig zag cactus, rick rack orchid cactus or moon cactus.
Epiphyllum Anguliger has deeply lobed leaves that are 3-5cm wide and up to 150cm long. This cactus also produces nocturnal, sweetly scented flowers. Primary stems are often woody while secondary stems are flat and succulent. It's a very unusual cactus that grows on other plants and in situations where there isn't much soil available.
Epiphyllum anguliger, more commonly known as the fishbone or zigzag cactus, is a fun, non-spiky plant that will add movement to your room โ plus it's non-toxic for pets and people.
