Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is seeking an inspiring and strategic Country Director to lead our work in Angola. If you're looking to apply your leadership in a context where your influence can drive real change, this position offers both challenge and purpose. 

NCA has been working in strong partnership together with Angolan civil society since 1975 and has had an office in country since 2003. NCA's goal is that Angolan citizens live in a transparent and just country where all citizens have equal access to economic opportunities, can exercise their rights and have livelihoods resilient to climate change. In Angola, NCA supports initiatives for climate resilient economic development but also promotes citizen empowerment, particularly of women and youth, as a core strategy in all our programmes.

About the Role

As Country Director, you will lead a dedicated team of 11 local staff and oversee the successful implementation of NCA's programmes in Angola. You will represent NCA to donors, government authorities, and civil society partners, while ensuring strategic alignment with our global mission. This is a unique opportunity to shape impactful programmes in climate-resilient economic development and citizen empowerment.

This is a two-year expat position based in Luanda, Angola, with regular travel to partner projects across various provinces. Angola is classified as a low-risk, family duty station, making it a suitable location for candidates relocating with family.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and contribute to the development of NCA's countrywide strategy.

• Oversee daily operations, staff development, and capacity building.

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, INGOs, and the private sector to advance NCA's funding priorities.

• Represent NCA in national and international forums, strengthening partnerships with government, civil society, and faith-based actors.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership and administrative experience in international relief and development.

• Solid background in Development aid, Human Rights and Humanitarian response, preferably within NCA's programme areas.

• Relevant higher education (experience may compensate).

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.

Language Requirements

Fluency in Portuguese and English is essential. Norwegian is an advantage. Highly qualified Spanish-speaking candidates may be considered.
