Would you like to be a part of our international work for children's rights? We have a temporary vacancy (10-12 months)  for an Adviser focusing on our partnerships with international institutional donors, such as the multilateral development banks (AfDB and WB), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and Global Partnership for Education (GPE). This is an exciting time to join our team as we are looking to expand our partnership with these donors. The donor portfolio may change during the employment period. 

The Adviser sits with the Institutional Partnership Section within the International Program Department. The Institutional Partnership Section ensures long term and sustainable donor relations, resulting in funding and policy influence contributing to the SC breakthroughs in the SCN international portfolio so that children survive, learn, and are safe. 

The Adviser will contribute to Save the Children's overall donor-portfolio and partnerships by developing donor analysis and strategies for donor engagement, supporting fundraising efforts and capacity building. The role will work closely with relevant colleagues internally in SCN and Save the Children International as well as with other Save the Children Members and will provide guidance concerning donor funding cycles, compliance and fundraising best practice, ensuring a coherent approach to donor engagement across Save the Children. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
 

  • Contribute to the development of SCN's overall portfolio and partnership with the assigned donors
  • Provide analysis and advice on the policies and priorities of the assigned donors as well as best practice for fundraising 
  • Assist fundraising efforts including tracking and sharing information about new funding opportunities, undertake necessary research, data analysis and background documentation, support selected proposal/reporting processes and assist reviews of grant agreements, service contracts and consortia agreements
  • Provide advice and support to colleagues at SCN and country offices on donor expectations, requirements and compliance throughout the project cycle
  • Facilitate information sharing and learning to strengthen internal staff capacity to fundraise and manage funding from donors, including development of guidance tools and materials. 
  • Coordinate with other Save the Children members to deliver on joint priorities and exchange best practices.
  • Collaborate with relevant experts to support advocacy efforts targeting relevant donors
  • Support the overall deliverables of the Institutional Partnership Section and take on additional tasks as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: 

  • We are seeking a self-driven individual with excellent interpersonal, communication and planning skills. 
  • You are dedicated to Save the Children's mission in ensuring all children survive, learn and are safe
  • You possess in-depth knowledge of major institutional donors, including strategic priorities, organizational setup and funding mechanisms (preferably experience with multilateral banks, IGAD and/or GPE).  
  • You have excellent understanding of international trends in development funding and donorship
  • You have documented results in fundraising, including developing proposals and reports to government/institutional donors as well as developing donor strategies and plans.
  • You have a university degree (BA) or equivalent.  
  • You have a minimum 3 years of practical experience from a humanitarian and/or development organisation or donor administration, either at HQ or field level. 
  • You have strong planning and administrative skills, including a good understanding of financial reporting and budgeting.
  • You have high work capacity; you motivate others and enjoy working in teams. 
  • You are fluent in English, both written and verbal
