Stavanger International Church, a vibrant and multicultural congregation, is seeking a dedicated Senior Pastor to lead us into our next chapter.

Lead Our Congregation as Senior Pastor

The Senior Pastor serves as the spiritual leader of the congregation and works closely with the Church Council, and volunteers to fulfill the church’s mission.

The pastor will provide biblical preaching and teaching, offer pastoral care, and engage in leadership development. They will also cast a vision for the future while fostering unity within our multicultural and multi-denominational community.

We are seeking a servant leader who will equip others for ministry, encourage active participation throughout the congregation, and help our church continue to grow as a welcoming community that shares the love of Christ in Stavanger and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide biblical preaching and teaching during worship services.

• Planning and organizing the Sunday Worship services along with relevant ministry team leads.

• Lead the spiritual vision and direction of the congregation.

• Offer pastoral care, counselling, visitation, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and Holy Communion.

• Develop leaders and equip members for ministry and service.

• Work collaboratively with Church Council, ministry leaders, and volunteers.

• Foster unity within a multicultural and multi-denominational congregation.

• Support and strengthen small groups, discipleship, and prayer ministries.

• Represent the church within the local community and wider Christian networks.

• Provide overall leadership for the administration and ministry life of the church.

Required Qualifications

• Theologian or ordained minister in a recognized Christian denomination or association.

• Strong commitment to Jesus Christ and a mature Christian faith.

• Ability to serve within the evangelical and ecumenical identity of Stavanger International Church.

• Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written.

• Demonstrated experience in preaching, teaching, and pastoral ministry.

• Experience providing pastoral care and spiritual leadership.

• Ability to lead and serve within a multicultural and international environment.

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with Church Council, and volunteers.

Desired Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Senior Pastor or equivalent leadership position.

• Experience in international or multicultural church ministry.

• Proven ability to mentor leaders and develop volunteer teams.

• Experience with strategic planning and organizational leadership.

• Mission or cross-cultural ministry experience.

• Additional language skills.

• Familiarity with Norwegian culture and church life.

• Theological education at bachelor's or master's level (or equivalent).

• Ability to use digital systems (including, but not limited to M365, Planning Center Online, Proclim and others).

• Training and Assistance will be provided.

• Personal suitability, spiritual maturity, and alignment with the vision and values of Stavanger International Church will be given significant consideration.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interviews and may be asked to preach at Stavanger International Church as part of the selection process.

Founded in 1971, Stavanger International Church has served the international community in the Stavanger region for more than fifty years.

During that time, thousands of people from around the world have called SIC their church home while living in Norway.

Today, SIC is a vibrant evangelical congregation made up of approximately 120 members and nearly 200 people who regularly participate in worship and church life.

Our congregation represents dozens of nationalities and a wide range of Christian traditions, united by our shared faith in Jesus Christ and our commitment to God’s Word.

Our vision is to be a welcoming, Christ-centered community where people belong, grow as disciples, discover their God-given gifts, and actively participate in God’s mission.
