Senior Control Systems Engineer
Bergen Engines AS
- Frist 28.6.2026
- Ansettelsesform Fast
On land. At sea.
Bergen Engines is executing a significant industrial scale-up, increasing manufacturing output substantially over the coming years while expanding the workforce and operating largely within the constraints of the existing factory footprint.
On behalf of Bergen Engines, we are looking for an engineer who enjoys solving complex control challenges in real-world machinery.
This position sits at the intersection of automation, thermodynamics, and mechanical systems. You will contribute to the development of control and safety systems for medium-speed engines and associated equipment, working from first-principles engineering through simulation, implementation, testing, and verification.
If you are motivated by understanding how physical systems behave, and translating that understanding into robust control strategies, this could be an excellent opportunity.
What You Will Be Working On
Design and implement control and protection functions for engine and auxiliary systems.
Develop and maintain software for PLC- and controller-based applications.
Model, simulate, and validate system behaviour using engineering tools and physical testing.
Select and size sensors, actuators, and control components based on system requirements.
Analyze dynamic processes and optimize control performance.
Produce technical documentation, including functional descriptions, alarm philosophies, wiring documentation, test procedures, and commissioning material.
Support verification, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
What We Are Looking For
MSc degree in Cybernetics, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
Strong understanding of control theory and physical system behaviour.
Solid knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid systems, mechanics, or energy conversion processes.
Experience with modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
Experience programming PLCs, embedded controllers, or industrial automation systems.
Familiarity with reciprocating engines, power generation systems, marine propulsion, process industries, or other complex machinery is advantageous.
Fluency in English and one of the Scandinavian languages
Who You Are
You enjoy digging into technical problems and understanding the underlying physics rather than relying solely on predefined solutions. You combine analytical thinking with practical engineering judgement and are comfortable taking ownership of technical tasks from concept through validation.
What You Can Expect
Challenging engineering work involving advanced control systems and large-scale machinery.
Collaboration with experienced specialists across automation, software, mechanical, and engine disciplines.
A technically focused environment where engineering decisions are driven by performance, reliability, and physical principles.
Opportunities to further develop expertise in control systems, modelling, and engine technology.
This role is particularly suited to engineers who enjoy applying control theory to real physical systems and want to see their work operating in demanding industrial and marine environments.
The position is located at the company headquarters in Hordvikneset outside Bergen, Norway.
Application due date: June 28, 2026 - Applicants will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.
