With Aibel you have a chance to develop your career through a range of projects in renewables and oil and gas. We call ourselves Engineering Pioneers. Whatever our job is, we approach it with creativity, curiosity and a drive to find new and better solutions. First we imagine the future. Then we build it.
As a Principal Process Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and future‑ready process solutions across Aibel’s project portfolio. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of process systems, with particular emphasis on compressor systems, process safety, and flare system design.
About the position
Your responsibilities include performing evaluations, simulations, and calculations, and preparing high‑quality technical documentation that supports both design integrity and project schedules. Collaboration is central to the role, as you will work closely with interfacing process system designers, multidisciplinary engineering teams, and clients to secure well‑integrated and optimized solutions.
You will also delegate tasks effectively to System Engineers and take an active role in HAZOPs and other design reviews, presenting your work clearly and ensuring timely follow‑up and closure of actions. In early project phases, you will contribute to cost estimations and selection of technical alternatives, helping ensure solutions that are both technically robust and economically balanced.
Qualifications
Higher technical education in chemical or process engineering (BSc, MSc, or PhD)
Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience
Strong competence in main process design (including compressor systems) or in process safety and flare system design
Proven ability to deliver high‑quality work on schedule within Concept Study, FEED, and EPC phases
Experience from the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) or Norwegian onshore projects is an advantage
Personal qualities
You build and maintain strong professional relationships and communicate with clarity and confidence in both verbal and written form. You work effectively both independently and within teams, contribute actively to knowledge sharing, and collaborate constructively across disciplines. You demonstrate a consistent commitment to meeting deadlines while upholding high quality standards, and you take initiative in strengthening work processes and driving continuous improvement.
