Northern Lights is looking to hire a permanent Sr Data Engineer to further develop and operate our core data platform. This role is critical for ensuring stable, secure, and scalable data flows across all parts of the CCS value chain. You will collaborate broadly across the organisation and contribute to building modern, futureready digital capabilities within a skilled and supportive team.
The position is based in Stavanger.

Your role
Northern Lights operates systems from multiple vendors and has developed a data platform that collects and structures data across the value chain. This data underpins business insight, decision making and operational evidence such as cargo documentation, invoices, digital certificates and MRV. Data is critical to Northern Lights today and will become even more important as we expand into machine learning and advanced AI.
As the Sr Data Engineer in Northern Lights, you will:
Lead the end‑to‑end strategy, architecture, delivery and stable daily operations of the data platform.
Ensure high‑quality data flow and technically secure data operations across multiple internal and external systems.
Manage operational costs for platform services, including Azure consumption.
Drive data‑driven decision‑making across the company by collaborating closely with all disciplines.
Work with third‑party system vendors to secure robust technical deliveries and reliable data collection

Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a solid academic and professional foundation. You have a minimum bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or another relevant field with a strong emphasis on digitalization. You bring 5–10 years of proven experience within your discipline, demonstrating depth, independence, and the ability to take ownership of complex development work.
Experience with backend development in database technologies, and system architecture is a strong advantage. Deep knowledge with Microsoft Azure, SQL, KQL, PySpark, Fabric and cloud native services will strengthen your ability to scale our solutions. Competence with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing is also valuable, and understanding of security by design principles will support our need for robust and secure digital operations.
You communicate fluently in both Norwegian and English, verbally and in writing.
It should be expected to travel both domestically and internationally (occasionally).
