The position is placed in the Finance and Compliance Unit in the International Programmes and Preparedness Department of the Norwegian Red Cross in Oslo. The Finance and Compliance Unit provides frameworks, guidelines and support for effective, relevant and timely finance management and compliance to the international programmes and preparedness department.
Norwegian Red Cross seeks a person who can motivate and lead a team of engaged finance professionals to oversee continuous improvements of Norwegian Red Cross finance management standards and tools for the international work. The team, consisting of a total of 9 staff (including team leader), works closely with Norwegian Red Cross regional and country offices in managing funds related to the international work of the Norwegian Red Cross. The team leader is expected to lead and manage the finance team and foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. The team leader reports to the Head of Finance and Compliance unit, and is expected to advise on strategic decisions related to finance and finance management. The team leader will work closely with operational units to ensure linkages between finance and operational data and results management.
The position is temporary replacement, from May 2026 to August 2027 (15 months).
Tasks and responsibilities
- Lead and manage the team, oversee the deliverables and prioritize tasks.
- Coordinate efforts to develop and improve financial standards and tools
- Ensure close collaboration and coordination with other parts of the International Department and Finance& Administration department.
- Provide relevant financial analysis and recommendations for management insight and decisions.
- Ensure effective, relevant and timely finance support to regional and country offices and units at National office in Oslo.
- Support quality assurance and compliance towards Norwegian Red Cross and back donors financial and administrative requirements.
- Coordinate, support and compile annual budget, financial reports, annual prognosis and yearly audit processes for the international department.
- Engage in dialogue with other relevant parts of the Red Cross Movement on matters related to financial management and donor requirements.
- Provide relevant guidance and tools for financial risk assessments of partners and programmes.
Qualifications
- Three years of proven experience with financial management.
- Masters degree in Business Management, Accounting, Finance or similar. Four additional years of highly relevant experience can replace this.
- Experience with leading and coordinating others, and ensuring cooperation across teams.
- Advanced user of digital financial management tools (Microsoft Dynamics 365, excel, others)
- Proactive, systematic and detailed oriented working approach
- Proven experience with and ability to perform financial analysis
- Fluency in English. Working proficiency in Norwegian (B2-Bergenstest). Other languages (French, Arabic, Spanish) are an advantage
