Machine Learning Engineer
Do you enjoy solving complex problems using modern technology? Are you motivated by seeing your work materialize in real-world, physical systems? Would you like to be part of an interdisciplinary team delivering world-class robotic solutions for retail logistics? If so, Solwr Robotics would like to hear from you.
Solwr Robotics develops innovative robotic systems to solve logistics challenges in the retail and trade industry. We currently have two products on the market:
Grab - an autonomous pick-and-place robot for warehouse operations
Sort - a high-speed, space-efficient pallet sorting machine
Location: Trondheim or Ålesund
About the Role
In this role, you will strengthen our ML team and contribute to ML-based robotics solutions spanning from edge to cloud. You will deliver production-grade deep learning for robotic perception and build the data, training, and deployment foundations that enable rapid iteration in production. This work will help move to increasingly closed-loop, learning-driven robotic behavior in real-world operations.
The role combines broad contributions across the ML stack with the opportunity to take technical ownership of selected areas, and it suits engineers who want to turn advances in AI-robotics into robust, measurable improvements in deployed systems.
We are growing the team across the ML engineering spectrum and are looking for candidates with a T-shaped profile: strong depth in one area, with the ability and interest to contribute across adjacent parts of the stack.
Relevant Focus Areas
Core ML engineering: training, evaluation, optimization, and on-robot inference integration
Data engineering: edge-to-cloud and cloud data pipelines for structured and unstructured data
MLOps: ML infrastructure, automation, observability, and lifecycle operations
The scope and ownership areas can evolve with your strengths and the team’s needs.
Responsibilities
You will work across parts of the ML stack, with opportunities to take ownership of selected areas:
Develop and improve deep learning-based robotics capabilities, with an initial emphasis on perception and a path toward closed-loop learning-based control.
Deliver production-grade ML solutions in real robot systems; prototyping can be part of the process, but reliable deployment is the goal.
Build and evolve scalable data infrastructure and data workflows that enable faster iteration and facilitate increasingly advanced ML solutions.
Design, implement, and operate modern training and evaluation setups, including simulation-based workflows where relevant.
Build and run MLOps workflows: model deployments, monitoring, performance tracking, and lifecycle automation for production.
You Are Meant for This Job If You…
Have experience delivering software in a team environment.
Have industry experience in one or more of: deep learning, computer vision / 2D–3D perception, data engineering, MLOps, or robotic manipulation/object interaction.
Are a proficient developer; prior languages are not critical. For this role, Python is the primary language.
Have solid knowledge of development tools and processes (e.g., Git, CI/CD).
Have a relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.
Think interdisciplinarily about how to combine robotic hardware, systems engineering, and modern AI/robotics methods to enable reliable robotic behavior in production.
We offer a dynamic and flexible work environment with modern tools and hardware, strong development opportunities, and of course plenty of technical challenges.
Ferdigheter
- CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery)
- Computer vision
- Data Engineering
- Deep Learning
- Maskinlæring
- MLOps
- Python (dataprogrammering)
- Robotikk
