Temporary vacancy - Policy Officer (energy, Arctic and political affairs) at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Oslo

Are you interested in political affairs, the Arctic region and energy policy? Are you able to analyse and explain developments in Norway (and Iceland) in relation to its neighbours, to the Netherlands, Europe and the world? Then this might be an interesting opportunity for you.

The Embassy of the Netherlands in Oslo is seeking a temporary policy officer to cover for our colleague who will be on parental leave. This is a full-time position for 5 days per week, for a total of 37,5 hours per week. The position will be open for approximately 11 months, starting from October 2025. You will based in Oslo. The policy officer reports directly to the (deputy) Ambassador and works together with other colleagues in the policy/economic team. Candidates will need to be able to shape the function in such a way to maximize the value added and optimize the interaction with the rest of the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow day to day political developments in Norway (and Iceland) with special attention to energy, Arctic affairs and politics.

  • Identify, analyse and report on relevant developments within your fields. Provide speaking points and briefings to the (deputy) Ambassador and keeping the policy team well-informed on your work.  

  • Facilitate incoming or outgoing visits and delegations. Organise events and meetings together with the Embassy team.

  • Building and maintaining a strong network of representatives from Norwegian government bodies, private sector, civil society.

Qualifications

  • Higher education at minimum BA level in e.g. political science, economy, international relations or other relevant fields.

  • A thorough understanding of the Norwegian political landscape and how Norway works politically, culturally and economically.

  • Excellent command of Norwegian and English (written and spoken). Dutch skills are not required but could be an advantage.

  • Solid organisational and administrative skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Pro-active and team-oriented mindset, willing to take on a variety of tasks.

It is positive if you also have

  • Insights and interest in the field of energy, in particular hydrogen and CCS.

  • Knowledge about Arctic affairs and Norway’s geopolitical situation.

  • Relevant work experience is a plus, but not a requirement.

  • An existing network within Norwegian civil society, government and/or business community is appreciated.
