Summer Internship 2027: Resilient Navigation at Kongsberg Discovery - Seatex

What happens when GPS isnt available? How can autonomous systems continue to navigate safely and reliably? You may not know the answers yet, but

At Kongsberg Discovery Seatex, were solving challenges like these every day, and this summer we invite you to be a part of our journey/team this summer. Seatex is at the forefront of technological innovation and throughout the internship youll get the chance to work on technologies that help vessels and autonomous systems navigate reliably in challenging environments. We're searching for curious and ambitious students who are eager to apply their academic knowledge to real challenges within GNSS-denied navigation, situational awareness, inertial solutions, and machine learning.

This years Summer Interns will have the opportunity to tackle exciting and challenging problems related to resilient navigation, sensor fusion, situational awareness, and data-driven insights. Youll get hands-on experience with real-world systems, contribute to meaningful software and algorithm development, and collaborate with experienced colleagues in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Apply what youve learned in the classroom or from extracurricular activities to cutting-edge technologies and see firsthand how theory can be transformed into solutions that are actually used in real-world operations. And did we mention that were located at Pirsenteret, with the most outstanding view of the Trondheimsfjord?

All in all, this is an opportunity to challenge yourself, develop valuable technical skills, gain industry experience, and learn from and work alongside experts who are shaping the future of navigation and autonomy technologies.

We're seeking students with skills or interests in one or more of the following areas:

Software Development

Physics & Mathematics

Electronics Design

Control Systems & Cybernetics

Robotics

Simulation

Machine Learning

If you align with any of these expertise areas, have a genuine passion for technology and are curious about advanced sensing and navigation technologies, we'd be pleased to consider you for our summer project.

Please note that employment with us may require clearance by the Norwegian National Security Authority, clearance through Civil Aviation Authority or a background check.

What we can offer

Kongsberg Discovery is part of a project called Workation in Trondheim, which offers a unique summer program for students with a job in one of the 20 participating companies. Among the activities the students got to experience during the summer of 2026 were a kayaking trip on the Nidelva river, a Padel tournament, go-karting, minigolf, and beer tasting at ØX. All is free for you as a student! This summer program is a great opportunity to get to know new people across companies and make friends for life. We and Workation will make sure you have an unforgettable summer here in Trondheim.
