Luke Skywalker destroyed the first Death Star during the Battle of Yavin by firing two proton torpedoes into a small thermal exhaust port. This precise shot triggered a chain reaction in the station's hypermatter reactor, causing the planet-killing superweapon to explode.

The Force: Guided by the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke switched off his targeting computer and used the Force to guide the torpedoes through the narrow trench and into the port.
Han Solo's Intervention: Han Solo and Chewbacca arrived in the Millennium Falcon at the last moment, destroying Darth Vader's TIE fighter and its escorts, which cleared the path for Luke's final run.
