Operations Specialist – Meteorology Officer
Andøya Space is growing, and we are now looking for more Operations Specialists to join our Operations Team.
As an Operations Specialist, you will be part of the operational environment and contribute to the planning, preparation, and execution of operations at the spaceport. The role encompasses several operational functions related to the safe and efficient execution of launch operations. Responsibilities are assigned based on competence, experience, and suitability, and final role assignment is subject to completed training and successful certification.
The operational role we are currently seeking to fill is the Meteorology Officer (MET).
Key Responsibilities
As Meteorological Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting weather conditions to support safe and efficient launch operations. You will provide weather forecasts, operational briefings, and GO/NO-GO assessments based on mission-specific weather criteria. The role includes operating and participating in , coordinating weather balloon activities, maintaining weather data quality, and supporting flight safety through close collaboration with operational teams. You may also contribute to local climate studies, mission planning, training activities, readiness reviews, and post-mission evaluations, while ensuring strict adherence to operational procedures and safety requirements.

The position places strict requirements on security suitability and requires candidates to meet the conditions for obtaining a SECRET / NATO SECRET security clearance in accordance with the Norwegian Security Act.
Qualifications
- Relevant education on Bachelor or Master level. Education in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences, or another relevant discipline is desirable. Experience from technical, operational, or other safety-critical environments may compensate for formal education requirements.
- Strong technical understanding and experience operating in complex or high-risk environments is an adventage.
- Experience with weather forecasting, meteorological instrumentation, meteorological data analyst, Python, Linux or similar technical tools is considered an advantage.
- Good understanding of procedures, risk management and preparedness
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
- Valid driver's license (Class B) and eligibility for security clearance
