Two-roller mangle model no. 12
Early on, Miele introduced appliances for pressing washing to remove creases. For domestic use there were table-top mangles, mangle tables with a foldaway mangle and mobile mangles on an iron base such as model no. 12.
With a two-roller mangle, the washing was pressed by passing it backwards and forwards between the rollers several times.
The movement in both directions made it necessary to have a wooden board on either side to prevent the washing from falling on the floor.
The hand-operated mangle with spring pressure applied from above to the loosely mounted upper roller is a prime example of the stability and functional elegance of Miele mangles. Rollers made of supple beech wood and an adjustable spring support giving just the right amount of pressure were the secrets of Miele’s top-class quality. The rollers ensured excellent pressing action, but were flexible enough to negotiate buttons and buckles without crushing them.
