Are you finishing your master’s degree or equivalent in 2027 – or have you recently graduated?

Maritime Trainee Group 20 starts in August 2027 – and we are now recruiting!

As a Maritime Trainee, you are employed by one of the participating companies while taking part in an 18-month development programme alongside other young professionals from across the maritime industry.

Participating companies

This year’s programme includes Silver Sea, Odfjell Technology, BW LNG, Höegh Evi, Höegh Autoliners, DOF, VARD and Wikborg Rein.

The companies recruit for different roles and are looking for candidates with different academic backgrounds.

What you get as a Maritime Trainee

Alongside your full-time position, you will take part in five academic and professional modules during the 18-month programme.

Through company visits, workshops, case work and networking, you will gain insight into different parts of the maritime industry and build a strong professional network.

The programme includes modules in Norway, Singapore, Copenhagen and London, giving you first-hand exposure to some of the world's most important maritime hubs.

As a Maritime Trainee, you will:

  • Start your career in a leading maritime company

  • Participate in five academic modules in Norway and abroad

  • Gain insight into companies and different parts of the maritime value chain

  • Build a strong network across the industry

  • Be assigned a mentor to support your professional development

  • Join an alumni network of more than 300 former Maritime Trainees

  • Depending on your employer, have opportunities to rotate between departments and potentially gain international work experience

Who are we looking for?

Maritime Trainee is primarily aimed at students completing a master’s degree or equivalent in 2027, as well as recent graduates and early-career professionals.

Relevant backgrounds include, among others:

  • Engineering, marine technology and other technical disciplines

  • Economics, finance and business

  • IT and digital technology

  • Law

  • Other academic backgrounds may also be relevant depending on the individual position.

You are curious, motivated to learn, and interested in building a career in an international industry.

We are looking for candidates who want to challenge themselves, develop professionally, and contribute to the future of the maritime industry.

About Maritime Trainee

Maritime Trainee is one of Norway's leading trainee programmes and is organized by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association in collaboration with Menon Economics for the maritime industry.

Since 2005, more than 50 maritime companies have participated in the programme.

These include shipowners and operators, shipyards, technology and equipment suppliers, classification societies, law firms, banks and other maritime service providers.

The programme gives you a unique opportunity to combine your first years in a full-time position with structured professional development, international exposure and a network spanning the Norwegian maritime industry.
