Miss Marple investigates a complex murder plot hidden by misdirection at a rehabilitation center in Agatha Christie's 1952 novel They Do It with Mirrors.
Plot Overview
The Visit: Miss Marple visits her old friend Carrie-Louise at Stonygates, a grand estate that operates as a reformatory for young male delinquents.
The Chaos: She senses hidden danger among the unusual mix family members and troubled youths. The Crime: During a commotion where a resident shoots at the center's administrator Lewis Serrocold, a visiting trustee named Mr. Gulbrandsen is murdered in a completely different part of the building at the exact same time.
The Solution: Miss Marple realizes the public disturbance was just a staged illusion—or done "with mirrors"—to create an unbreakable alibi for the real murder.
