🐾 Luna - active, smart, fearful 🐾

We are looking for a **very dedicated, experienced and patient person** who would like to get to know our wonderful dog Luna and, over time, become someone she can safely stay with.
Luna is a mix of **Border Collie, Retriever and German Shepherd**, 4.5 years old and is a very active, intelligent and loving dog. She absolutely loves **swimming, playing ball and frisbee, obedience training**, and learning new things. She is incredibly smart, eager to work and, when she feels safe, she is also a total sweetheart who loves cuddles and being close to her people. ❤️
However, Luna comes with some challenges that are important to be completely open about.
She is **extremely fearful of people and even more fearful of other dogs**. New situations and anything unfamiliar can also make her suspicious and insecure. Because of this, she needs someone who understands dog behaviour, is comfortable reading a dog's body language and is willing to work patiently and calmly with her.
We have completed a **dog-passing/encounter training course** and have made good progress. Passing people on walks is now generally very manageable when we use treats and appropriate distraction. Passing other dogs is more difficult: sometimes it works beautifully, while other times the best solution is to turn around and create distance. You need to be attentive to her signals and adapt to what she is telling you.
If a situation escalates and Luna feels overwhelmed or trapped, she can **bark, growl and, if she feels unable to get away, potentially nip at someone's legs**. This is fear-based behaviour, but it is nevertheless something we take very seriously and want to handle responsibly and safely.
This is also the reason why Luna's previous family could no longer keep her. We took her in when she was **1.5 years old**, and since then we have been very committed to helping her feel safer and building her confidence.
Unfortunately, **traditional dog boarding/hotels are therefore not an option for us**.
Instead, we are hoping to find someone who is genuinely interested in building a relationship with Luna and who would be willing to **get to know her gradually, together with us**. Our ideal situation would be to meet several times, go on walks together, spend time with her in different situations and slowly build up her trust. Eventually, the goal would be for this person to be able to look after Luna independently and for Luna to have someone she knows and feels safe with.
We are **not looking for someone to simply take her for a weekend**. We are looking for someone who is willing to invest time and patience in becoming one of Luna's trusted people. In return, you will get an incredibly sweet, funny, clever and affectionate dog who has so much to give once she trusts you. ❤️
Our hope is especially to find someone who could eventually look after Luna, either part time or as a new owner. Ideally already **over Christmas**, but there is absolutely no expectation that this could happen immediately. We would much rather take the time needed to make it safe and comfortable for everyone.
We are very dedicated ourselves and really want to make this work — **in a safe, responsible and positive way for Luna, and for the person looking after her**.
