Vintage 100% Pure New Wool pleated tartan kilt skirt manufactured by Laird-Portch of Scotland
Brand Heritage: Laird-Portch of Scotland was a highly prominent East Kilbride-based textile and fashion brand flourishing in the mid-to-late 20th century. Pioneered by Geoffrey Laird-Portch, the label became renowned as a "seal of quality" for traditional, authentic Scottish wool garments and heritage tartan wear across Europe and North America.
Design Details: The skirt showcases traditional kilt architecture: a flat front panel, deep pleated reverse sides, side-fastening leather straps with silver-tone buckles, a raw fringed vertical edge, and a classic oversized silver kilt safety pin closure near the bottom hem. If you unbuckle both sides, it unfolds into one completely flat, long rectangle of fabric with pleats. Made in Scotland.
Tartan Pattern: The pattern is a vibrant red base plaid intersected by deep bottle green, navy blue, yellow, and white accent striping, reminiscent of the traditional Royal Stewart tartan family.
Waist Size: 28 inches / 71 cm (and up to a waist 30 inches / 76 cm when using the loosest belt holes)
International Sizing Equivalents on Tag: US Size 14, UK Size 14/16, French Size 44N, German Size 42, and Italian Size 46. For Norway, equivalent is the German size 42— all above are vintage sizing! Today this same size is rather considered a size 36 (tightest possible belt holes) to a size 38, borderline to 40 (use the belt holes).
Material & Care: Composed of 100% Pure New Wool and explicitly labeled Dry Clean Only to preserve the pleated structural hang and density of the wool fiber weave.
The Length: 72 cm. The A-line midi cut (falling well below the knee to mid-calf) represents the classic style pivot that occurred after the late 1960s/early 1970s mini-kilt trend. It honors the late 70s and early 80s preference for practical, everyday country-style heritage wear.
