Who was Joichi Hoshi? The "Painter of Trees": He earned international acclaim for his distinctive, deeply detailed depictions of solitary or dense, often leafless trees.Signature Technique: He pioneered incorporating haku-oshi (traditional gold and silver metallic leafing) directly into the backgrounds of his modern woodblock prints to give them an ethereal, luminous glow.Cosmic Beginnings: Before dedicating the later years of his career entirely to trees, his early 1960s work focused heavily on abstract depictions of stars, constellations, and the galaxy.Global Recognition: His artwork is preserved in major institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.
