Don't let anyone tell you they were just a product of their era.
Vixen were the real thing — four genuinely talented musicians who could outplay most of their contemporaries and had the songs to prove it. In a scene drowning in hairspray and hollow riffs, they brought actual craft to the table. And on this night at Hammerjacks in 1990, they brought everything else too.
The Rev It Up era found Vixen at their most confident and most complete — more groove, more maturity, more swagger than the debut, and a live show that had been sharpened to a razor's edge. Streets In Paradise as an opener sets the tone immediately: anthemic, high-energy, and completely in command of the room.
The broadcast quality defies the club setting. Crisp, clear, and punchy — the kind of sound that lets you hear exactly how tight this band really was. No muddiness, no excuses. Just Vixen firing on all cylinders in an intimate room that was absolutely not ready for how good they were.
One of the finest documents of a band that never got the full recognition they deserved. Loud and proud.
