The Yamaha AN1x has become a bit of a cult synth over the years. It was Yamaha’s answer to the late-90s virtual analog wave alongside synths like the Nord Lead. Even today, many producers still love it for pads, leads, ambient textures, and expressive performance controls.
A few things that make it stand out:
Very musical sound — warmer and more organic than many early VA synths.
Scene morphing — you can morph between two variations of a patch in realtime.
Free EG motion recording — records knob movements into the sound itself.
Ribbon controller + aftertouch — makes it unusually expressive.
