Michel Medinger - Lord of Things offers a parallel exploration of the work unknown to Luxembourgish photographer Michel Medinger and his house, filled collections of objects that populate each of his photographs. At the heart of his surreal and baroque work, his still lifes photographed during 30 years take on a theatrical dimension where, with subversive humor, life and Dead meet. This book accompanies the exhibition Michel Medinger - Lord of Things presented at the Rencontres d'Arles 2024 and in Luxembourg. Born in 1941 at Luxembourg, Michel Medinger is first passionate about painting, before devote to photography from the 1960’s. It starts as photo-reporter for the Luxembourg athletics federation, itself having Participated at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Working for laboratories of the Luxembourg State, it draws on its extensive knowledge in chemistry to experiment with multiple photographic processes. His artistic practice asserts itself in the 1980’s and is a body of remarkable work, both by his perfect mastery of techniques and by the singularity of his Very neat compositions. Exhibitions in Luxembourg, France, USA, In China or Japan, his photographs are part of collections private and public, Luxembourg and international.
